Search entries or author The article I chose to discuss the findings for is “Quantitative balance and gait measurements in patients with frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer’s diseases: A pilot study.” Findings from this study showed that gait and balance disturbance is a normal aging symptom, but it is found to be more heavily present in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and Frontotemporal Dementia. However, the study did show ways to tell the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and Frontotemporal Dementia by “indicating differential patterns of balance and gait…the marker to differentiate these two conditions helps to diagnose in very early stages” (Velayutham, Chandra, Bharath, & Shankar, 2017). Personally, I would use the results provided by this study in my practice. I believe the study was well performed comparing the (2) Dementias and a control group. By focusing on patients balance, gait and ability to perform single or dual tasks and help with patient diagnosis. If patients can be diagnosed at an earlier stage this can better improve their quality of life and plan of care. When reviewing research information for my clinical issue of RN STAT orders for analgesics medications for patient pain relief and its effect on patient satisfaction scores, I would use Quantitative Analysis. “Quantitative Analysis refers to the analysis of numbers…The researcher can think of quantitative analysis as an interpreter that takes raw data and turns it into something understandable” (Houser, 2018, page 353). Research results would be compiles by reviewing patients’ satisfactory questionnaires and comparing patients that received STAT RN pain relief to those that had to wait for the physician to see them and receive medication.
