• Moisturize!!!! Don’t scratch.
• Advise pt to wear cotton clothing to help prevent trapped
moisture and heat.

• Can be caused by stress, it is not contagious.
• Teach pt to expect flakes of skin everywhere and that they
will have times of exacerbation/remission.
• Remember psoriasis is autoimmune, also keep moisture in

• Eliminate the offending agents
• Have a skin allergy exam done
Preventing inhalation of occupational hazards
• PPE
• By the time pt comes into clinic with symptoms the disease
has already progressed.
Transmission-Based Precautions
• Types: Airborne > Negative pressure room *keep door
closed*TB, measles.
• Contact > Gown, gloves and separate room.
• Droplet > Flu, pneumonia, whooping cough pertusis.
• Continue teaching outside hospital. Tell pt to perform hand
hygiene often, isolate person who is sick.
• SHINGLES, chicken pox is airborne. Isolation precaution.
Separate room & bed until pt is symptom free.
