I still have a lot of leadership skills to develop. I am working on my bachelor to develop

!| these skills. I do feel I have some leadership skills that I can build upon. One of the skills

!| I already have is encouragement. I encourage and inspire other nurses to be better, do

!| better and work up to their potential. One of the other skills I have is communication.

!| Verbal communication with the other team members is important. For the last leadership

!| skill that I employ is clinical experience, even though I have not been a nurse long, I have

!| had several medical field jobs in different areas including but not limited to SNL,

!| Dialysis and hospital experience. I bring all of this with me with every job. As far as

!| management skills I am missing a lot of these, but I am excellent with spreadsheets which

!| is important. I can use excel, word and PowerPoint. These are important in the

!| management field. Excel is used for staffing and census. As a second management skill I

!| am very good at scheduling and planning. As a night shift nurse when I look at my patient

!| load the first thing I do is plan how I will do things this shift. It does not always stay on

planning. I tend to just run with stuff and not plan what I am going to do. I also tend to run

away from people in authority. I work night shift to stay away from administration. As a

So, of the three leadership skills I choose that I have are encouragement, communication

and clinical experience. To improve on encouragement, I need to make sure, I

encourage all nurses. An example of this would be when I am given a student nurse.

!| Instead of just letting them watch me while I work, I could let them do the work and

walk them through the skills they don’t have yet. Like if they have not fed a patient with

a feeding tube, I could let them do it and walk them though it step by step through

To improve on communication, I need to improve on my listening skills. I need to look at

the speaker and pay attention to what is being said. I am not good at this. For example,

when I am charting, and another nurse comes up and talks to me I keep charting. Am I
!| !| !| !| !| !| !| !| !| !| !| !| !| !| !| !| !| !|
listening of course. Am I truly listening no I am not? I should stop what I am doing and
