CCIM EXAM 2 QUESTIONS AND CORRECT
ANSWERS!
How does money and other compensation interact with the clinician compassion mental

state?

Money is necessary to sustain a compassionate career.

Money can interfere with compassionate caring if self interest is the primary motivation.

Sometimes money and other forms of compensation can be seen as a 3rd party motivator for a

clinician to engage with a patient in a caring interaction. Being motivated by financial gain in a

caring interaction can be concerning if the primary motivation is based on this instead of

compassion and desire to relieve the suffering of the fellow human being. However, it can be a

secondary motivator in caring interactions, for example a physician needs money to continue

contributing to their job, but in order to stay in the compassion mental state it cannot be the

dominating motivator.

What are two of the four competencies of emotionally intelligent care and what are they

relevant to clinical practice for clinicians?

One of the competencies is the ability to perceive emotions accurately. This is relevant to clinical

practice for clinicians because having this ability allows them to quickly read and interpret

emotions in themselves and in others and better respond to their environment and others.

Another competence is the ability to regulate and manage emotions in yourself and others. This

is relevant to clinical practice for clinicians because having this skill provides them with the

capacity to maintain the correct mood, repair one's mood when it's poor, and seek out or avoid

activities that accord with one's goals.

What is the boat metaphor for managing the impact of external systemic/societal factors?
