PYSC 101 MODULE 3 EXAM

The [answer1] is where the Optic Nerve exits the eye. Blind spot

[answer1] take in light energy as it enters the eye and they use it to enable the eye to
see color. Cones

Define Binocular and Monocular cues. Then, describe a specific example of each type
of cue.
Binocular and monocular cues give us information about depth. Binocular cues involve
both eyes and there is disparity between the two eyes views when looking at nearby
objects versus objects that are far away and is a form of communication to our brain
about the depth perception and information. Monocular cues involve one eye and
involve lights and shadows as well as motion. With monocular cues, our eyes see light
colored objects as being closer and darker objects being farther away. Monocular cues
also see that farther objects are moving more slowly and closer objects move more
closely. A specific example of a binocular cue is bringing a marble closer to your eyes
and your eyes begin to cross. An example of a monocular cue is when you are traveling
in a car, certain objects such as mailboxes or lights seem to swoosh by much faster on
the road while a larger bulding that is far away stay in our vision for longer time.

For the following scenario, indicate whether each is an example of Bottom-up or
Top-down processing.
Little Mia has never been stung by a bee, but is extremely afraid of all insects and runs
away whenever they come near. TOP-DOWN

[answer1] is the ability to recognize an object as staying constant under different
conditions. Perceptual constancy

The [answer1] theory of pain states that certain pain signals on larger nerves can be let
in, while smaller ones are blocked entrance. Gate control

Based on what you learned about the loudness of common sounds, what is your
reaction? Were you surprised? Why or why not? Do you think that if this information was
generally known that people would change their behavior? Do you plan on changing
yours?
I was surprised to learn about the loudness of common sounds because of the decibels
and how certain sounds that are so common could potentially be harmful for the ears. I
believe that if people knew this information they would definetly change their behavior. I
do plan on changing some of my behavior or at least around smaller children.
