This is an essay type assignment. You are required to provide a discussion of approximately 6
pages (1200 words) in length. Rather than merely familiarise you with the contents of the relevant
study units, the aim of this assignment is to develop your skills in identifying primary ideas pertaining
to the topic in question, and to integrate your information in a concise discussion.
Please feel free to support your argument with day-to-day examples as well information from other
sources such as scholarly articles/texts.
Your assignment will be assessed with due regard for the following elements:
• A heading/Topic
• Table of contents
• An introduction
• The ‘body’, which is the main part of your discussion, and which is presented under
subheadings (structure)
• Essay substance (Substantiate your claims, do not make general claims without
substantiating. Do not plagiarise)
• Referencing (in text referencing and bibliography/list of references)
• The use of your own words in your answer.
• The length of your answer which should be approximately 6 pages (1200 words) in
handwriting or typed in 1½ spacing.
• A conclusion

Considering the above statement and other functions of the field, discuss the relevance of
anthropology of health (also known as medical anthropology) in understanding health, healing
and medical systems in western and indigenous societies.
Applying examples and case studies from the module will benefit your discussion.
