QUESTION 1
Activity: Ball Games Obstacle Course Adventure
Activity Description:
This fun and active obstacle course integrates ball games into physical challenges to
help children develop gross motor skills such as running, jumping, crawling, throwing,
and balancing. Children navigate through various stations while carrying or interacting
with a ball, which adds an extra layer of coordination and engagement.
Objective of the Activity:
To promote the development of gross motor skills including balance, coordination,
strength, and agility through a structured yet playful obstacle course that incorporates
ball-handling tasks.
Resources Needed:
• 4 soft balls (foam or lightweight)
• 6 cones or empty bottles (for zig-zag path)
• 1 tunnel (or large cardboard box for crawling)
• 2 hula hoops or car tires (for jumping)
• 1 balance beam (or wooden plank)
• 1 bucket, basket, or box (target for throwing)
• Masking tape (for marking start and finish lines)
• Stopwatch (optional, for timing each child’s run)
• Whistle or bell (to signal start)
Instructions for Setting Up the Activity:
,Space Required:
Use a large indoor hall, outdoor play area, or classroom with open space.
Station Setup:
1. Start Line:
o Mark the starting point with tape.
2. Zig-Zag Ball Run:
o Place cones/bottles in a zig-zag pattern.
o Children carry a ball while weaving through the cones.
3. Tunnel Crawl:
o Place a tunnel next.
o Child drops the ball, crawls through the tunnel, then picks the ball up
again.
4. Jump Through Hoops:
o Lay two hula hoops flat.
o Children jump in and out of them while holding the ball.
5. Balance Beam Walk:
o Set up a low wooden beam or taped line.
o Child walks heel-to-toe across it while holding the ball steadily.
6. Target Throw:
o Place a bucket at a distance.
o Child throws the ball into the bucket.
7. Finish Line:
o Mark it with tape or cones.
, o Cheer the child on as they complete the course!
Setup Instruction:
• Arrange the stations in a straight line or looped path.
• Ensure space between stations is safe and comfortable.
• Make the setup colourful and inviting.
• Allow children to take turns and repeat the course for fun and improvement.
