Phumeza
Phumeza was employed as a marketing and sales representative at a wholesale office furniture,
equipment, and stationary distributor. Her job entailed marketing and selling the company's
products at retail outlets in the Eastern Cape.
At first, Phumeza was very excited about the job. She had a diploma in marketing, loved
travelling, and she wanted to be successful. When she accepted the job, she was very clear
about what she wanted to achieve in life. She was going to work hard, establish herself as an
excellent sales person, gain as much experience as possible, and then apply for the job of
regional sales manager. She would then give herself three years in this job, before she would
become a national sales manager. It all looked so easy.
