Class: IX
Subject: Science (Physics)
Chapters: Motion + Force and Laws of Motion
Max Marks: 80
Time: 3 Hours

General Instructions:
 All questions are compulsory.
 Draw diagrams wherever necessary.
 Use proper SI units in all numerical problems.
 Calculators are not allowed.

SECTION A (1 mark each)
(6 Questions × 1 = 6 marks)
1. A particle is moving in a circular path of radius rr. What is the work done by the
centripetal force in one full revolution?
2. A car moves with a speed of 20 m/s. Can you say it has uniform velocity? Why or
why not?
3. If the momentum of an object is doubled, by what factor does its kinetic energy
change?
4. State which of Newton's laws explains the following: "A person walking on the floor
is able to move forward."
5. Is it possible for a body to have zero displacement and still be in motion? Explain
with an example.
6. Define inertia. Which has more inertia: a 5 kg stone or a 2 kg iron ball?

, SECTION B (2 marks each)
(6 Questions × 2 = 12 marks)
7. A ball is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 30 m/s. How high will it go before it
comes to rest? (Take g=9.8 m/s2g=9.8m/s2)
8. Explain why passengers tend to fall forward when a moving bus suddenly stops.
9. A body moves along a semi-circular track of radius 7 m. What is the distance and the
displacement?
10. A graph is plotted between velocity and time for a body moving with uniform
acceleration. What does the area under the curve represent?
11. Derive the equation: v=u+atv=u+at using graphical method.
12. Can a body have zero velocity and still be accelerating? Give one example.

SECTION C (3 marks each)
(8 Questions × 3 = 24 marks)
13. A car travels the first half of a distance at 40 km/h and the second half at 60 km/h. Find
the average speed.
14. Two objects of masses 5 kg and 7 kg are moving with velocities 3 m/s and 2 m/s,
respectively, towards each other. Find their total momentum before and after the collision if
they stick together.
15. Explain the mathematical expression for Newton’s Second Law of Motion. Show that
force is the rate of change of momentum.
16. A vehicle of mass 1200 kg is moving with a velocity of 36 km/h. Calculate its momentum
and the force required to stop it in 10 seconds.
17. A ball thrown up returns to the thrower’s hand in 4 seconds. Find the maximum height it
reaches and the speed with which it was thrown.
18. What is the difference between uniform and non-uniform acceleration? Give one
graphical difference using velocity-time graph.
19. A bullet of mass 10 g is fired from a gun of mass 1.99 kg with a velocity of 400 m/s.
What is the recoil velocity of the gun?
20. A block of mass 5 kg is placed on a smooth surface and is pushed with a force of 20 N.
What will be the acceleration? If the force is removed, what will happen to the block's
motion?

SECTION D (5 marks each)
(6 Questions × 5 = 30 marks)
21. A train starting from rest attains a speed of 72 km/h in 5 minutes. If the acceleration is
uniform, calculate:
