complete reliable solution with clear explanation
Question 1 [10] Explain briefly in your own words how
measuring CO2 production can be used to estimate the
metabolic rate of animals. Discuss at least two approaches in
this context.
Measuring CO₂ Production to Estimate Metabolic Rate in
Animals
[10 Marks]
Measuring carbon dioxide (CO₂) production is a widely used
method to estimate the metabolic rate of animals because CO₂
is a byproduct of cellular respiration, the process by which
animals convert food into energy. During cellular respiration,
especially aerobic respiration, oxygen is consumed and carbon
dioxide is released. The rate at which CO₂ is produced reflects
how fast energy is being used by the body, and therefore serves
as a proxy for metabolic rate.
Two Approaches to Measuring CO₂ for Estimating
Metabolic Rate
