Identify patient common complaints related to nervous system conditions
Explain the guidelines of examining nervous system
Describe the techniques used to examine the nervous system
Demonstrate skills in examining the NS
,1. Neurologic Symptoms
Headaches
Seizures
Weakness
Sensory Disturbances
Abnormal Movement (ex. tremors)
Altered Mental Status
Patients with any 1 of these symptoms should have a full
neurologic review of systems and neurologic examination.

Duration and progression of symptoms
Get collateral information from family as many patients with
neurological problems cannot tell their own history
Specific symptoms to ask about in Review of System:
◦ Loss of consciousness
◦ Cognitive disturbances
◦ Visual/hearing changes
◦ Difficulty walking
◦ Change in sensation
◦ Difficulty with speech, swallowing
◦ Incontinence
