ICP= volume of brain tissue + cerebrum spinal fluid + cerebral blood flow
Prolonged ICP= brain death or death
Changes in age:
-low neurons and brain wt after 70
-d/c blood flow to brain, may lead to perm damage
-d/c efficacy of autonomic nervous system
-pupils d/x in size
-slower response times
-d/c sensation
-affects short term memory but not long term
Back pain:
Walking and taking hot showers= nonpharmologic
Ice 5-10 min for each hour/ first 48 hours than can use heat
Don’t lift any heavy than 2-5 pds
No heels
NO twisting when reaching
