● Influential lifestyle habits - tobacco or alcohol use and nutritional choices.
● Chronic diseases are linked to a poor diet.
● Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US.
● Genetics and nutrition affect diseases to varying degrees - sickle-cell disease,
human genome.
Why be Physically Active?
● People who combine regular physical activity with a nutritious diet can expect to
receive at least some of these benefits:
○ Reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, certain cancers,
hypertension, and other diseases.
, ○ Increased endurance, strength, and flexibility.
○ More cheerful outlook and less likelihood of depression.
