DAANCE module 1
CNS- Central Nervous System - ✔✔composed of cerebrum,cerebellum & Medulla oblongata
PNS-Peripheral Nervous System - ✔✔Composed of Cranial Nerves (optic,olfactory,auditory,trigeminal &
facial) & spinal nerves
ANS-Autonomic nervous system - ✔✔divided into sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system
cerebrum - ✔✔thought area of the brain
cerebellum - ✔✔coordinating motor area of the brain
Medulla oblongata - ✔✔coordinating region for impluses/seat of autonomic center
cranial nerves - ✔✔Optic=sight, olfactory=smell, auditory=hearing, trigeminal=teeth/jaw, facial=muscles
spinal nerves - ✔✔motor and sensory nerves that leave various tracts of the spinal cord and goes to all
areas of the body
sympathetic nervous system - ✔✔speeds things up "fight or flight" cause vasoconstriction (vasomotor=
vessel movement) increases heart rate
Parasympathetic nervous system - ✔✔decreased heart rate, blood pressure, baroreceptores. (in aortic
arch, carotid sinus & ventricals increase parasympahtetic output.)
myocardium - ✔✔cardiac muscle
Atria - ✔✔2 superior chambers of heart that receive blood: Right- oxygen poor,receives blood from body,
Left-oxygen rich, receives blood from lungs via pulmonary vein
, ventricals - ✔✔2 chambers of the heart that receive blood from the atria. Right-sends oxygen poor blood
to lungs
Left-sends oxygen rich blood to body& peripheral circulation
arteries - ✔✔all vessels leading away from the heart (pulmonary artery= only artery with oxygen poor
blood) Coronary artery = supply oxygen nutrients to the heart)
veins - ✔✔all vessels leading to the heart
echocardiogram - ✔✔detects heart murmur or mitral valve prolapse
angina - ✔✔chest pain from ischemia (reduced 02 supply that weakens heart cells but doesn't kill them)
occurs usually during excretion (resolved by rest or nitroglycerin)
systolic - ✔✔both ventricles contracting
diastolic - ✔✔both atria contracting
cardiac cycle - ✔✔short pulse after contraction, usually 60-100 bpm
bradycardia - ✔✔heart rate below 60bpm
tachycardia - ✔✔heart rate above 100 bpm
sinoatrial node -SA node - ✔✔located in the right atrium (sinus rhythm)
hearts conduction system - ✔✔cac=cardioacceleratory center
cic=cardioinhibitory center
sa=sinoatrial node
