Ancillary attachment - answer-devices attached to the crane that perform functions other than lifting a load with a hook, such as forks, augers, grapples, or a digging bucket Anti-two block device - answer-a device that prevents two blocking from occurring if crane is used with load hoist mechanism Column (mast) *tq - answer-the vertical structure of the crane between the inner(main) boom and base Designated person - answer-a person selected or assigned by the employer or employers representative as being competent to perform specific duties Extension cylinders - answer-the hydraulic cylinders used to extend and react boom extensions Gross capacity - answer-the capacity listed on the cranes load chart *no deductions Load radius (abc) *tq - answer-the horizontal distance from the center line of the cranes rotation to the center of gravity of the load *articulating boom crane Load radius (abl) - answer-the horizontal distance from the center of the cranes rotation to the center of the rotator *articulating boom loader Net capacity - answer-the total weight a crane may lift after the load handling deductions have been subtracted from the gross capacity *net after deduction General safely precautions *tq - answer-1. A fire extinguisher (min rating) must be maintained on the crane or vehicle at all times 2. Do not refuel the vehicle while the engine is running General precautions of control systems :check for the following *tq - answer-1. Control function labels must be legible 2. Ensure that controls return freely to their neutral position before engaging power source 3. Ensure that o reload protection (olp) systems have not been compromised Manual control systems: check for the following - answer-1. Flooring of elevated stand-up platforms must be made of slip-resistant material 2. Elevated stand-up platforms must have designated handholds to access and egress the platform. Do not use controls to hoses as handholds 3. Tq**** use three-point contact (both feet and one hand, or both hands and one foot) for access and egress of elevated platforms Cable and remote controls: check for the following *tq - answer-1. To prevent unauthorized operation, switch the remote off and remove the key when not in use 2. Never walk backwards when using the remote control Top set control station *tq - answer-only one person may occupy the operators station area (except during training) Ancillary attachments: general precautions *tq - answer-1. Do not exceed the load rating of the attachment; note that the attachments load rating may bless than the cranes rating 2. Account for any load handling deductions (ex. Weight of attachments) 3. When using pallet forms. Make sure the fork tines are entered under the load to balance the load and lift level 4. Do not push down on the lifting attachment with the boom 5. Do not allow lifting attachments to push upward on the boom 6. Never lift personnel lifting device that is approved by the crane manufacturer and is attached or pinned to the last boom extension Articulating boom loader a d fork assembly:general precautions *tq - answer-1. Use the right attachment for materials to be lifted 2. The plastic supports on tieback of the fork must closely fit the load to prevent shifting and damage the load 3. The load shall rest on the load handling forks evenly and be engaged in a manner that places the load center of gravity directly on or between the forks 4. The swivel fork must always be able to float freely and never allow the fork or load to rest against the crane boom Articulating boom loader and fork assembly: safety precautions *tq - answer-1. Test the fork control functions prior to use improper rotation or accidental opening of form tines may cause the loss of a load 2. To maintain stability, keep the load as close to the ground and as short a radius as practical 3. During transport, the fork assembly must be stowed and secured on the vehicle on such a manner that it cannon swing out 4. Overloading the fork assembly could cause the form assembly to open uncontrollably 5. When handling drywall, close the fork as soon as the los clears the truck bed or ground surface 6. The transport of persons is prohibited using a fork assembly attachment under any conditions- no riders on forks or load 7. When practical, the load should be clamped between tines and backrest of the fork assembly 8. The tine locking devices shall be in the locked position for all lifts load shift or load loss 9. The fork assembly should not be moved manually to engage the load 10. The operator shall always present the load in a manner that ensures a safe loading environment Load charts: general precautions *tq - answer-1. Load charts must be posted on the crane so that they are visible when the operator is at the control station 2. If a crane is equipped with a remote control, the load charts must be at a level visible to the operator from the ground 3. Load charts must be maintained so they remain legible; never operate a crane without a legible load chart Types of loading charts - answer-articulating crane typically comes with one or two types of loading charts. The first and simplest one dimensional load chart; the second less common variety is a two-dimensional load chart. Two-dimensional load chart - answer-show both the vertical and the horizontal ranges of the booms lifting capability. This type of chart gives the operators a reference as to the cranes capabilifss when the cranes hook point moves in the vertical direction as well as horizontally Capacity lines/curves - answer-show what loads can be lifted by the cranes at different horizontal and vertical reaches. Reading loading charts - answer-1. Load rating charts are specific to every make and model of crane. Some cranes are equippeted with multiple load charts for various operating conditions. If your chart you are using does not match the specific crane you are using notify your supervisor and do not use the crane 2. On some load charts the angle of the inner boom is also stated to indicate what position the boom must be at for the capacities to be valid 3. Interpolation is the technique of estimating what the cranes gross capacity is between two stated values on the load chart. Never interpolate when reading and interpreting load charts always use the next lower capacity Charts representing stabalizee deployment - answer-charts may reflect "stabilizers fully extended" (best position for max. Stability and rating or "stabilizers mid span" (position reflects) Work area charts (lifting quadrants) - answer-rating charts may also identify work areas or lifting quadrants for rated capacities. Articulating boom cranes may use a back 180° (over the rear) a front 180° (over the cab( and a 360° chart Charts reflecting manual boom extensions - answer-1. Articulating cranes may be equipped with manual boom extensions that are optional and removable. When using manual boom extensions do not exceed the rating of the manual extensions regardless of the working radius or amount of boom extensions 2. When the crane is equipped with manual boom extensions that are not being used deduct the weight of the extensions from the cranes gross capacity to calculate net capacity do not deduct this weight when using the manual extensions Capacity of rigging and attachments - answer-1. The capacity or rating of the rigging or attachment being
