Main Content (MC)
Definition: Any section of a webpage that directly supports its intended purpose. This can include text,
images, videos, interactive features (like calculators or games), or user-generated content such as
videos, reviews, and articles contributed by users. (Reference: Section 2.4.1)
Control of MC: Webmasters typically have control over the Main Content of the page, except for user-
generated content. ✔️
Supplementary Content (SC)
Definition: Content that enhances the user experience on the page but does not directly contribute to
achieving the page's goal. This content is managed by webmasters and plays an essential role in the user
experience.
Role of Ads: Advertisements can contribute to a good user experience. ✔️
Advertisements/Monetization (Ads)
Definition: Content and/or links displayed with the intent to generate revenue from the page. Just
having ads is not, on its own, a basis for determining quality ratings (either High or Low).
Cost of Content Creation: Without advertising and monetization, some webpages might not survive
because it requires financial resources to maintain a website and produce high-quality content. ✔️
Control Over Ads: Webmasters may not always directly manage the content of the ads. ✔️
Classification of Reviews: On certain webpages, reviews might be classified as MC, whereas on others,
they may be considered SC. Use your judgment based on the purpose of the page. ✔️
Trustworthiness of Sources
Discrepancies: When there is a conflict between how a website presents itself and what reputable
independent sources report about it, trust the independent sources. ✔️
