Roe v. Wade
The topic I chose was Roe v. Wade, which is the law that was used to protect
a woman's constitutional right to choose. The type of social movement this is, is Reform. The
Reform social movement limits social change and targets everyone. The overturning of Roe v.
Wade has made it harder for women to access safe, legal abortions. This has caused an outcry
from many who advocate for reproductive rights for women. This is an example of a reform
social movement that attempts to bring limited social change.
The level of this social movement is statewide. Roe v. Wade's effects have been felt
across the United States, leading to pro-choice advocacy groups. These groups fight for
reproductive rights and safe abortions. Activism is increasing as more people become aware of
the issue and join the fight for reproductive justice.
Since Roe v Wade makes safe abortions illegal, if I got pregnant whether it was rape or
accidental I would either have to travel to a different state for a safe abortion or risk an unsafe
one. This would be an expensive and dangerous choice, with potentially severe consequences.
This should not be the case, as everyone has a right to make decisions about their own body.
Everyone should have access to safe and affordable reproductive health care and the right to
make decisions about their own bodies without fear of criminalization or punishment.
