What is meant by a wet sump lubrication system? A wet sump lubrication system means that the oil in the engine is carried internally in the engine crankcase. Some disadvantages include limited oil carrying capacity, difficulty cooling, and normally higher oil operating temperatures. What is meant by dry sump Lubrication system? A dry sump lubrication system means that oil is stored in a separate external tank. The oil is vented through the crankcase. And uses a check valve to keep the oil from draining into the engine when the engine isn't operating.
