1. Microorganism is a term used to describe tiny living organisms that are invisible to the naked eye. These organisms can be found in various environments, including soil, water, and even inside the human body. They play a crucial role in the ecosystem as they are involved in processes such as decomposition, nutrient cycling, and the production of oxygen. 2. One of the most well-known types of microorganisms is bacteria. Bacteria are single-celled organisms that can be found almost everywhere. They come in various shapes and sizes and can have both positive and negative effects on humans. Some bacteria are beneficial and are used in the production of food and medicine, while others can cause diseases. Another type of microorganism is fungi, which includes molds and yeasts. Fungi are important decomposers and are also used in the production of food and beverages such as bread and beer. Lastly, there are viruses, which are not considered living organisms but are still classified as microorganisms. Viruses are responsible for causing diseases such as the common cold and influenza. In conclusion, microorganisms are diverse and essential components of our world. They have a significant impact on various aspects of life, from the environment to human health. MICROORGANISM :FRIEND AND FOE

Throw lights on the long standing
debate of whether microorganisms
Are good or bad. Thus, this chapter
will help,
to an extent, in clearing this matter.
You can
easily learn about various forms of
microorganisms
and their shapes and sizes. Other than
that, you will
learn about where they live as well.
Furthermore, it
discusses the various uses of
microorganisms in commercial and
medicinal sectors.

After that, it also covers the subject of harmful microorganisms
and tells about them in detail. You will also learn about the various
techniques of food preservation and the role of microorganisms in it. In addition, the
student will be made familiar with Nitrogen fixation
and the Nitrogen cycle in a brief manner. Thus, it assists the students
in getting a fair idea about the advantages and disadvantages of microorganism.

INTRODUCTION OF MICROORGANISM
M any microorganisms are present in soil, water and air around us. Some of these
organisms are so small that we cannot see with our naked eyes. We need a magnifying
instrument called microscope to see these extremely small organisms

, (micro=extremely small). We can now say: Those microorganisms that we cannot see
with our naked eyes are known as microorganisms or microbes .

MAJOR GROUPS OF MICROORGANISM
Microorganism are classified into four major groups
1.BACTERIA
2.FUNGI
3.PROTOZOA
4.ALGAE

BACTERIA
Bacteria are tiny, single-celled living organisms. There are millions of different types of
bacteria. Many can be found in and on your body and are beneficial to you. These
bacteria make up your microbiome, which keeps your body healthy. Other bacteria can
make you sick.

TYPES OF
BACTERIA

1. ROD SHAPED
2.SPIRAL SHAPED
3.SPHERE SHAPED

FUNGI
Fungi are eukaryotic microorganisms.Fungi can occur as yeasts, molds, or as a
combination of both forms.
