Task 1
One of the three procedures used to promote and maintain a healthy and safe sporting
environment is the Normal operating procedure. Most sport facilities have a set of
operating procedures that involve this Normal operating procedure. These types of
procedures contain the safety programme as well as health and safety issues, such as daily
alarm testing. A football coach could check daily, if all his footballs are pumped up to be
ready for use in training and that could be his normal operating procedure. They also cover
operational procedures for maintenance and dealing with customer complaints. In
conclusion, it’s anticipating what could happen and that everyone at the work placement
knows what actions to take if that happens, like what to do when a customer complains
about the customer service.
Emergency operating procedure is the next procedure that is used to promote and maintain
a healthy and safe sporting environment. It solely focuses on emergencies, for example
when airport security find people trying to take drugs on board, that is when the security
has to follow a specific emergency procedure that they have been taught. In a sporting
example, it could be when a child suffers a broken bone during a football match, then the
coach must follow an emergency procedure to deal with this type of situation that is linked
with first aid. In 1981, the Health and Safety Regulations require that employers must have
adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities, and personnel in the workplace. First-aid
procedures generally state that how badly the person is injured determines whether first-
aid can be administered on the premises or whether the person needs hospital treatment,
which in this case hospital treatment would be more suitable. Certificates to identify who
can administer first-aid and where they are located should be clearly visible and accessible
to all staff.
Last procedure that is used to promote and maintain a healthy and safe sporting
environment is the Safety procedure. A safety programme is a document produced by the
organisation with relevant legislation and approved guidelines and practices in. The safety
document contains methods of raising the awareness of the importance of health and
safety for all staff and customers. The document must include clear methods of
communication information to employees as well as allowing time for the safety
programme to be effective. It is the responsibility of coaches and instructors to ensure the
health and safety of participants, so they should be fully aware of safety procedure.
Therefore, before training they should look out for sharp objects on the pitch and remove
them, as well as checking if participants are wearing the correct attire, equipment and
footwear.
