Pre-Solo written Exam Guide 2024

Personal documents/ endorsements req to have before solo - FAR 61.78b stating you have passed a pre solo written exam. FAR 61.87C instructor has given student proper pre solo training to solo. Endorsed on logbook/pilot certificate. Personal: student pilot certificate, 3rd class medical Limitations as student pilot - student pilot may not act as a pilot in command when carrying passengers, cargo or flying for compensation/hire Final authority for operation of aircraft when flying solo, who? - you do!!! pilot in command always has final authority Student pilot limitations - visibility: 3sm for day- 5sm for night/ Surface- ground visibilities at all times/ altimeter no greater than 10,000 MSL or 2000 AGL Local flight preflight actions - RAWFAT- runway lengths-takeoff/landing distances, weather reports+forecasts/ alternate airports/ known traffic delays Req for safety belts/ harnesses - must be worn at all times during takeoff + landing Min fuel reserve for VFR flight - Day: 30 min at 2350 RPM cruise speed Night: 45 min at 2350 RPM cruise speed Certificates/ documents req on board when flying solo - air worthiness certificate, registration, operating handbook, weight + balance info, endorsed logbook/student pilot certificate, Gov issued photo I.D Right away rules - right away for aircraft being overtaken, right of way for aircraft on right when converging, when head on both give way to the right Right of way when 2 planes on final to land - two or more planes are on final the plane with the lowest altitude has the right of way. Note: pilot shall not take advantage of rule and cut infront of another aircraft who is on final Alcohol regulations w/ operating aircraft - CANNOT operate aircraft until 8 or more hours have passed by after last drink OR 0.04% by weight of alcohol in blood Mode C transponder required - is req when operating within 30nm from a class B airport and within class C airspace up to 10,000 AGL. Also req when flying in controlled airspace Safe altitudes flying over congested and non congested areas - Congested: 1000' above tallest obstacle within a 2000' radius
