DST Questions and Answers Already Passed Why are you seeking membership into DST? What do you hope to gain? I am seeking membership into DST because this organization has always been present in my life. I recall being a participant in Delta Academy, Delta Gems, and the Delta Cotillion my senior year. Serving the community is what MI am hoping to gain a true sense of the word sisterhood. I am hoping to gain more insight on how to impact my community positively. Membership of DST is a lifetime commitment, state several reasons why making a lifetime commitment is necessary for sustaining growth and development. Making a lifetime commitment is necessary for sustaining growth because the more you invest in something and remain dedicated to something the more it will flourish. Making a lifetime commitment requires an intense level of dedication and desire. What are 3 current national programs and what are their objectives? Delta G.E.M.S: Prepare young girls to be successful academically and professionally. Delta Academy:To prepare young girls for full participation as leaders in the 21st century. Embodi: Addresses the issues of young African American males by implementing educational and social forums. If you were to develop a new program what would it be and why? I would also implement a youth political program. Youth need to understand how important it is that they know what goes on in the political realm. The African American community needs to groom the next generation of political leaders. This program would be a great start. Describe how your personal strengths will promote growth and stability in the organization. My personal strengths will promote growth and stability by my willingness to take the lead on tasks within the organization, my consistent dedication will promote stability. What are some qualities of sisterhood? A few qualities of sisterhood are compassion, transparency, understanding, and love. How did you learn about DST? What was your first experience with the organization? I first learned about the organization through my mother. She has been an active member since I can remember. My first experience with the organization was when I was a participant in the Delta Academy. What influenced your decision to seek membership into DST? Seeing the activities that are implemented in the community by this illustrious organization has been the biggest pull factor for me. I admire the hard work that the members display, I enjoy the public activities that I participated in as well. What Delta or non-Delta service projects have you participated in over the past year? I participated in the can food drive hosted by the Concord Alumnae chapter last month. I also led an effort to collect toiletries for the battered women's shelter in October 19 What qualities do you think a leader should possess and why? A leader should always be selfless. The better of the whole should always be considered. Leaders should possess a sense of compassion for others and they should always be open to different ideas and perspectives. Who are 3 notable members of DST and the contribution they made to the sorority? Sabrina Funton: Trayvon Martin's mother April Bryan: Maxine Waters: What are 3 national programs of DST and how do they align with the 5 point thrust?` Embodi, Delta GEMS, Delta Academy. These programs all promote physical and mental health, political awareness, International Relations, Education, and Economic Development. If you were initiated what new programs would you like the chapter to implement? I would like to implement a meal program for underprivileged youth. There are often times where children only get a good meal at school and not at home. What public policies or legislative issues should Delta be involved in and why? Education has always been a priority in my life. I believe that the US education system is failing our black and brown students. Academic Competitiveness and National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) is a nation program that should be presented to all students to participate in.
