You are a Change Analyst at the organisation where you work. To develop your
knowledge and horn your skills on the functioning and sustainability of a contemporary
organisation amid wicked problems, you have enrolled for an MBA programme at Alu
School of Business in Kigali, Rwanda. Your lecturer for a Corporate Change
Management module (OMC9E), Prof Ariko Impinduka, has asked you to write a 2500-
word essay on selecting interventions – Chapter 14 of your prescribed textbook. For
you to write and submit an academically sound essay that blends theory and practice,
Prof Impinduka has asked you to use the prescribed study materials as your primary
source of theory. However, to expand your knowledge and understanding of the
phenomenon you are writing about, Prof Impinduka has asked you to identify and
make use of relevant supplementary material that can be accessed and downloaded
from the library. In your essay, identify and advise the executive team at your
organisation on important factors to consider when selecting change interventions. If
you are not working, you may consider any organisation of your choice that you are
familiar with that is contemplating some change or has embarked on a change journey
recently.

Factors to Consider When Selecting Change Interventions

When selecting change interventions for an organization, there are several important
factors to consider. These factors will help ensure that the chosen interventions are
effective in addressing the organization's specific needs and challenges. According to
Hayes (2019) consideration is given first to those factors that need to be taken into
account when deciding which interventions are likely to contribute most to achieving
the goals of a change programme. Attention is given to three main factors namely the
nature of the problem or opportunity that the intervention has to address (diagnosed
issue), the level of change target (individual, group and so on) that is to be the focus
for change, and the depth of intervention required. Two additional factors are also
considered. These are the time available for the change and the efficacy of different
types of interventions.
