Program Outcome #5 Develop a plan for lifelong personal and professional growth that integrates professional values regarding scholarship, service and global engagement. MSN Essential IX: Master’s-Level Nursing Practice Recognizes that nursing practice, at the master’s level, is broadly defined as any form of nursing intervention that influences healthcare outcomes for individuals, populations, or systems. Master’s-level nursing graduates must have an advanced level of understanding of nursing and relevant sciences as well as the ability to integrate this knowledge into practice. Nursing practice interventions include both direct and indirect care components. NP Core Competencies # 2 Leadership Competencies 1. Assumes complex and advanced leadership roles to initiate and guide change. 2. Provides leadership to foster collaboration with multiple stakeholders (e.g. patients, community, integrated health care teams, and policy makers) to improve health care. 3. Demonstrates leadership that uses critical and reflective thinking. 4. Advocates for improved access, quality and cost effective health care. 5. Advances practice through the development and implementation of innovations incorporating principles of change. 6. Communicates practice knowledge effectively both orally and in writing. 7. Respond Topic responses • • More Sort By:    Jose DelAcruz Reflection on Achievement of Outcomes Leadership and Role of the APN 8/21/2016 10:25:55 AM Generally, the attributes of leadership are important for every nurse practitioner, therefore it is important that the nurse practitioner possesses a self-reflection so as to look back to their experiences and learn from the course. This paper discusses the achievement of the course Leadership and Role of the APN outcomes in this course have prepared me to meet; the MSN program outcome, the MSN Essential IX and the NP Core Competencies. The MSN program outcome The Master of Nursing program provides an organized, sequential plan of study that I believe it helps in the preparation of a specialized nursing role. According to Grove, Burns and Gray (2014), it is important to set goals so as to be able to measure the outcomes of the Master of Nursing program, as I reflected on the course, the MSN program prepared me as a medical practitioner to implement and enhance best practices in nursing. Potter et al (2016), say that there are several domains in the graduate and nurses practice in leadership, including the clinical practice, nursing profession, system level and health policy, therefore, in order to meet the MSN program outcomes, it is important to develop and evaluate the leadership qualities and the role of the APN. Studying the course helps in understanding the program and this has led to the achievement of the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree, which varies by credits and also depending on the area is majoring in. The other achievement of the course Leadership and Role of the APN outcomes in this course that have prepared me to meet the MSN program outcomes is that it helped me develop the interdisciplinary relationships and collaborative partnerships with other medical providers while providing quality, cost-effective medical care. The MSN Essential IX The MSN essentials addressed in the course leadership and the role of APN outcomes in this course delineate the knowledge and skills that all nurses prepared in master’s nursing programs acquire at the end of the course. In addition, I believe that the MSN essentials help me as a student in the MSN programs to complete the nursing educational activities such as the supervised medical experience. According to McClelland, McCoyand Burson (2013), the MSN Essential IX recognize that nursing practice, especially at the master’s level, is elaborated as any form of nursing intervention, this helps in influencing the healthcare outcomes for the clients. In addition, the achievement in the course that helped me meet the MSN Essential IX was as a result of having an advanced level of understanding of nursing and relevant sciences in APN, as well as the having the ability to integrate the acquired knowledge while practicing nursing practice (Joel, 2013). Therefore, the course Leadership and Role of the APN outcomes in this course reflect the achievement that has helped me meet the MSN essentials IX through transformative thinking, and evolutionary change in leadership and the role of the APN. The NP Core Competencies Usually, Nurse practitioner's scope of practice is dynamic, this simply means that it changes from state to state (Kleinpell et al, 2012), thus the achievement of the course Leadership and Role of the APN outcomes in this course have prepared me to meet the NP Core Competencies in different ways. I agree that the NP core competencies, helps me gain new strengths and discover weaknesses I was unaware of so that I can adopt the best medical practice. In addition, the course helps me keep judgment aside and work to the best interest of the patient as well as giving the best medical care (Fagerström et al, 2014). This is very complete. The need to self reflect has been an enlightening experience.Last night the Ohio Association of Nurse Practitioners had a meeting in our area and as a member this nurse was able to attend. The program was about new diabetic drug that has been on the market for a few and the Dr. presenting it said he preferred to work with NPs than any other medical professional because we have a holistic approach to health care. In Ohio as this nurse has written, the Ohio Medical Association is holding the NPs back from full practice stating we do not have the education t be equal to them. This Dr. was a refreshing change. I would encourage anyone who is having difficulty finding preceptors to join that state NP Association and as this course urges, network. I went around the room after the program and spoke with people I knew and introduced myself to those I did not and was able to get several preceptors lined up.
