The nurse practice act in which the nurse can find the scope of practice is determined by the board of nursing. The board of nursing created the rules and regulations one has to follow to maintain his or her license. Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) scope of practice and nurse practice act varies from state to state. Within the nurse practice act, the CNP can find the regulations for their certification requirement and continuing education. The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) designed core competencies that are designated as a guideline in preparing the student to have the tools needed to embrace the scope of practice of the CNP. In this paper, I will discuss the CNP scope of practice and the nurse practice act for the state of Pennsylvania. I will also discuss the nurse practitioner core competencies that this writer believes are my strengths and the competencies I feel I will grow into as a student within this program. The CNP needs to be able to exhibit leadership skills. According to DeNisco and Barker (2015), with the CNP leadership skills, the quality of care the patient receives has improved all while being cost-effective.
