Release tourniquet 10. Remove stylet and connect IV extension to hub 11. Place sterile alcohol prep pad under hub to absorb alcohol 12. Aspirate for blood return with 3-5mL saline while maintaining positive pressure Label vascular access site appropriately with - date, time of procedure, catheter gauge and length, and your initials Record in patient's record: - date and time of venipuncture, site location, catheter gauge and length, # of attempts, IV fluids, flow rate, patient's understanding Educate your patient about infusion therapy and tell them how to _____________, about any complications such as ____, ____, ____, _____, ______, or _______.
