1. What are, according to Freud, the Ego, the Id, and the Superego? Use your
own words
The Id stands for the instinctive side of us, which directs our desires. The internalization
of social and familial standards, laws, and prohibitions is represented by the super-ego
(Your morality, but also your buried traumas) . The (primarily conscious) aspect that
ultimately takes charge of decision-making is the ego.
2. Give an example of yourself struggling between your Id and your
Super-Ego
I am trapped in a building with some survivors. My id tells me to take a few rations by
force, but my super-ego tells me that that is wrong and to try to cooperate with the other
survivors.
3. What is the problem with the image attached of the angel and the devil?
Is this a good representation? Why?
Id is a bit extreme as it represents our more animalistic side but the ego which is a
human is accurate due to it being less about morality and more grounded but with
control and without use of instincts. The angel is accurate as it goes against the id and
its animalistic tendencies for what is right and wrong, against what is best for you and
more in favor of doing good.
4. Does your Super-Ego prevent you from being yourself? Why?
My super-ego is part of myself, same with id and ego, it is more about controlling all 3
that makes me who I am. I can't get rid of them but I can improve upon them.
