P2: Setting up and use of a light microscope to observe structures of microorganisms
under magnification.
Handling the Microscope
• Pick up and carry the microscope with two hands
• One hand placed under the base and the other firmly grasping the arm
• Place the microscope in the centre of the desk
• When using the microscope move yourself to the microscope don’t move the
microscope to you
• Plug in the microscope so that the chord is out of the way as much as possible
Handling Slides
• Grasp the slide by the edges so you do not place fingerprints on the top or bottom of
the slide
