HIS 100 Discussion One
The women's suffrage movement was led by founders Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and Lucretia Mott. These women advocated for women's right to vote and managed to raise their voices so loud that the nineteenth amendment was passed in the constitution. As Aileen Kraditor mentions in The Ideas of the Woman Suffrage Movement, , “The early suffragists did not see voting privileges as their primary goal; rather they saw suffrage as an opportunity to participate more fully in the public affairs of society through political engagement and civic action (Kraditor,1965)” Thanks to these suffragist women are able to vote. Thanks to history, I am aware of the hardships that they endured and can appreciate the privilege that I now have (the right to vote) even more. History provides the opportunity for change, which is why it is valuable.
