PSY-402 Topic 3 DQ 2
PSY-402 Topic 3 DQ 2 What are some of the differences in processing in the dorsal and ventral visual pathways? Imagine you have a friend who has an injured dorsal or ventral visual pathway, describe what that looks like, what deficits would be in their daily functioning, what remains intact. Class, In a nut shell, the differences in the processes of the dorsal and ventral visual pathways are that the dorsal pathway controls actions and the ventral pathway identifies objects (Van Polanen, 2016). Knowing this helps to understand how a person with an injured dorsal or ventral pathway would be affected. An injury to the dorsal pathway might cause problems with a person’s spatial reasoning between objects meaning they can see what is around them but locating objects they see might be difficult (Visual pathways, 2009). A trial like this would make daily living difficult if not near impossible when so much of daily functioning relies on spatial understanding. A person with a ventral pathway injury ultimately has difficulty or an inability to recognize what they are looking at (Visual pathways, 2009). An example of a ventral pathway injury is prosopagnosia which makes it so that faces of people are no longer recognizable. This would have a significant impact on the social life of that person as the people they can no longer recognize their own family members as well. Visual pathways. (2009). In R.
