Module 2 Prep Notes 8A – Growth: Linear vs Exponential Word Search: Fill in the blanks with the appropriate words from Section 8A, pages 491-496 1. Linear growth occurs when a quantity grows by the same absolute amount in each unit time. 2. Exponential growth occurs when a quantity grows by the same relative amount—that is, by the same percentage—in each unit time. 3. The terms linear and exponential can also be applied to quantities that decrease with time. 4. Linear decay means a quantity decreases by the same absolute amount in each unit time. 5. Exponential decay means a quantity decreases by the same relative (percentage) amount in each unit time. 6. Exponential growth cannot continue indefinitely. After only a relatively small number of doublings, exponentially growing quantities reach impossible proportions Unit overview video: What is the big idea? Write a couple sentences. Linear Growth happens to quantities that grow by the same amount in each unit of time. Exponential growth occurs when a quantity grows by the same relative amount that is by the same percentage in each unit of time. Dynamic Concept Video: Write down two examples from the video. Then summarize what you learned about exponential functions in a few sentences. Y= a x b(x). Linear y= a x b^x. Exponential Exponential growth occurs when a quantity grow
