• Concept of Weathering
– The Earth’s crust is made up of solid rock, which slowly break into
smaller pieces, this is known as weathering
– Weathering is an important process as it provides particles of rock,
which eventually form soil
– Rocks are made of minerals which, in soil, provide nutrients for plants
– These plants are then eaten by animals and humans, which pass
these nutrients on
• Rocks weather in three different ways
1. Physical Weathering
2. Chemical Weathering
3. Biological Weathering
