During my work experience I worked in a retail placement which sold baby products
mainly like baby clothes/ accessories etc.
27/A.P1 - describe three realistic opportunities for work experience in business
and how each can prepare you for the workplace.
There are many opportunities that come with carrying out work experience that will
benefit me both now and in the future. Some of these opportunities include benefits
like gaining an insight into how businesses operate and the challenges they face. I
got to witness this during my placement, and I am now able to understand how
businesses can do this and overcome issues. For example, during my placement I
had many roles, one of these being dealing with customers complaints. I dealt with a
customer who had a complaint because she said the item she bought was broken
when she took it out of the box, and she was upset with this as she needed the
product for a gift for her friend who was having a baby shower the next day. The
store policy to overcome a problem like this would be to offer an exchange or refund
depending on the item. So, I communicated with the customer, and she wanted the
same product but obviously not broken and so I promptly resolved this problem by
exchanging the product. The customer left happy, and I felt like I provided good
customer service. Working in this placement provided me with this experience and
now I feel like I can work with customers and their complaints confidently in the
future.
Another opportunity I received by doing work experience is it helps me to clarify my
career goal. This is because I was able to understand whether or not this is a career
I would want to pursue in the future and whether I would like It or not. My role was
quite diversified as I was able to cover a lot of the different roles, so I got a wide
variety of roles during my placement. This meant that I could try lots of different roles
I could one day potentially do in the future such as I did customer service, working
on the tills, restocking shelves, I worked in marketing too where I helped with
advertising, I also got to decorate the window displays and I did a lot of other roles
too. I enjoyed this and it provided me with the opportunity where I could see which
role I enjoyed the most, this will help me with my future career decision.
Another opportunity I received was I was able to use this experience in the future.
This means I could use this for future references like I could put it on my application
forms to strengthen them or I could use this experience to show off my knowledge in
interviews and be confident. This would help me to stand out from other candidates
and could help me get the job.
