Assignment: Regulation for Nursing Practice Staff Development Meeting The Differences between a Board of Nursing and a Professional Nursing Association Boards of nursing (BONs) do not have the mandate to support or oppose a bill during the legislative sessions and they are also barred from engaging in lobbying activities for nurses (Milstead, & Short, 2019). The roles that BONs play on matters of legislation are on the implementation and carrying out the policies and laws that are drafted and passed by the legislature. Boards of nursing also play the role of overseeing the application for licensure, renewal of licenses, issuance and have the mandate to pursue disciplinary actions to nurses that have violated the law (Maryland Board of Nursing, 2021). The other role of Boards of nursing is authorizing the utilization of licensing exams, approving educational programs for nurses, and also regulating the practice of advanced practice nursing. The BONs boards also set the minimum qualification for professionals working in the nursing field as a way of protecting the public from harm that can be caused by having unqualified people practicing in the nursing field. Boards of nursing also protect nurses by making sure that clear legal authorization is used in the nursing field and titles such as RNs, LPN/VNs, and APRNS are only used by nurses who are licensed. On contrary, nursing associations are private and professional organizations. Members of these associations pay for membership to benefit from the benefits that the association offers. Associations have the mandate to represent their member’s legislative matters and can therefore lobby for their members on matters dealing with a change or opposing certain nursing legislation This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :57:36 GMT -05:00 ASSIGNMENT: REGULATION FOR NURSING PRACTICE STAFF DEVELOPMENT MEETING 3 for its members.
