Organizational Behavior 2 Organizational Behavior Case Study Organizational behavior is the study of how people interact and relate to each other in groups, and in accounting and business, it is the study of how employees and staff members interact in a given operational area (Kopp 2021). The concepts and principles of organizational behavior are used and implemented in business organizations to improve effectiveness and efficiency of business operations. These concepts and principles are aimed towards improving the output and work performance of the administration, employees and other support staff by ensuring that the working environment is conducive and that there is increased job satisfaction (iEduNote 2021). Also, the study and application of organizational behavior is aimed at promoting creativity and innovation among employees as well as establishing proper leadership and organization in the workplace to enable effective human resource management. This essay report will analyses the approaches and techniques of organizational behavior applied in the case organization, for this study, the Robert Kennedy High school, and tries to identify the issues facing the system of organization. The issues identified will be assessed through the different perspectives specified, as well as highlighting the strategies that are to be used to address the organizational issues identified and finally the outcomes of the strategies in the alternate perspectives. The Robert Kennedy High School is an organization undergoing a management and administrative turmoil. There are structural and organizational problems that have been building up for quite some time due to the change of administration. David King is the current principal and chief administrator of an organizational that desperately needs reforms in terms of structural and human resource management. The job was inherited from a former principle who could not stand the intensity of managing a group of staff that lacks direction and purpose. In the case provided, the board is split over the transfer of Perkins as he was the only one with the ability to effect the operational schedule and other administrative duties. The board that organized the departure of Perkins did not also trust on King’s administrative abilities as they claimed he was not competent and imaginative enough. Board meetings feature outbursts of anger and accusations among staff members on the current state of the school and one member, Betsy Dula, claims that the issues facing the staff organization is that no one was willing to face the tough matters until they exploded. The school administrational did not apply the concepts of organizational behavior and discussed below are the issues identified by David King in the perspectives of organizational structure, human resource, politics and symbolic or cultural perspective of the school. Analysis of the Issues Structural Issues The first issue identified is that there was weak or no work coordination among members of the staff and the board, despite having adequate labor divide and specialization techniques put in place. During the transfer of Perkin, this issue was made clear as staff members were greatly divided on his work ethic that some of them voted him out of the board, despite the fact that he was integral in the planning and utilization of the schedule and other administrative operations. The organization of the school human resource was achieved through the matrix structure strategy where all the employees reported or were answerable to multiple managers, in this case for example, teachers and other staff members had to report to the principal and the respective departmental heads. The school staff however, had poor relationships with the departmental

MUTATION AND VARIATION

CUT OBJECTIVE 26!!!

NON-MENDELIAN INHERITANCE
- Mendelian = Complete Dominance
- Only the dominant allele’s protein is produced
- When a yellow and purple parent produce a purple offspring
- Not all traits are simply determined by a single dominant and a single recessive allele.
- Incomplete Dominance (see Diana’s picture)
- A little of each allele’s protein is produced.
- Codominance
- A lot of each allele’s protein is produced.
- Polygenic - Multiple genes determine the trait
- Eye color
- Bell Peppers
- Colon Cancer - Human needs to have mutations in about 7 different genes.
- Sex-Linked Traits
- Gene for trait is on portion of “X” chromosomes not matched by “Y”

COMPLEXITY
- Variable Expression: All cells in an organism have the same genes, but only some are
used.
- Muscle Cell
- Pancreatic Cell
- Molecular “bookmarks” are put in each cell’s DNA to indicate which genes should be
active.
- Modifier Genes: Some genes can modify the effect of another gene.
- Albino: Gene stops production of pigment proteins
- Master Control Genes: Activate numerous genes to control complex tasks
- Environmental Effects: A cell’s surroundings can impact how genes function
- Diet and hormones
- Which is a bigger influence: Genetics or Environment? (Nature vs Nurture)
- Heterochromia: your eye has 2 distinct color

MUTATIONS
- Mutations produce new alleles (versions of genes)
- Mutation: DNA is altered
- “Big” Chromosomal Mutations - structured changes or irregular number
(uncommon)
- Base “Point” Mutation - common
- Mutations in sperm and eggs can be passed on to future generations.
- Causes of Mutations
- Mistakes during DNA replication
