1. Read through the above case study and compile a list of all the
possible stakeholders you think would be involved with Anglo
Platinum at its different mining operations.
Investors, employees, trade unions, customers, business partners,
contractors, suppliers, NGO’s, Government bodies, educational
institutions and local communities.
2. Explain the significance of each of these stakeholders to the
company in one sentence.
Investors – they will ensure that they manage their operations with
the ultimate goal of ensuring a good return on investment for their
investors, but this will be in line with their overall philosophy of
placing equal importance on all shareholders and stakeholders and
on compliance and enforcement that underpins shareholder
protection, profitability and sustainability of the business.
Trade unions – they engage with trade unions with the aim to ensure
smooth operations and also in line with the overall philosophy of
treating their shareholders and stakeholders equally.
Customers – will be dealt with in accordance with in the same
manner as all stakeholders and shareholders are treated as this is
part of their philosophy.
Business partners – their business partner’s views on corporate
governance they would mainly deal with business partners whose
views are aligned with those of Anglo Platinum.
Contractors – in terms of their responsibility they would mainly make
use of BEE contractors.
Suppliers – in terms of their responsibility they would prefer to deal
with BEE suppliers.
Educational institutions – in terms of platinum jewellery
manufacturing these institutions need to ensure that they are at the
leading edge in terms of design and technical requirements. In terms
of other programmes offered Anglo Platinum may engage in ABET
training and other types of training.
Local communities – working closely with them the company has
developed an emissions-reduction programme where the community
reports emissions.
Employees – involving them have enhanced employee moral – e.g.
Employees believe that the integrity of operations has improved and
are proud to be associated with the company.
