Kids want to go to school
- Prepubescent

Exception= parents that have a hard time letting go
- Self esteem = HUGE
o Really imprints on children and parents response contributes to this
Introduction
- The school age is ages 6-12
- Growth physically slows down while growth internally changes
o Children move towards abstract thinking and seek approval of many leadership
position- parents, teachers, coaches etc
Physical growth
- 6-7 cm per year
o Girls and boys are the same height and appear thinner and more graceful
- Preadolescent boys and girls do not want to be different from peers or the same or
opposite sex
- Emerging differences are concerning and a source of embarrassment got both sexes
- Physical maturity does not correlate e social or emotional development
Physiological changes
- Girls especially experience rapid growth *

- Fewer respiratory infections
