How should HR respond to "The Great
Resignation"?
The experts coined the term "The Great Resignation" to refer to a wave of resignations after
the Covid-19 pandemic.

As per a report, around 40% of people thought of quitting their jobs.
It is hard to pinpoint one specific cause of The Great Resignation; in fact, there are multiple
factors that lead to it.

Let's explore a few reasons Why employees are leaving and how HR managers should
respond.

Company Culture
While decent pay is often the most crucial factor when considering a job, not every small and
medium-sized business can offer high salaries. Moreover, recent studies have shown pay isn't
usually the top reason employees quit.

Most employees consider the work-life balance and company culture before taking a new job.
Or, to put it simply, it is much easier to poach employees from companies where workers feel
less engaged with their managers and suffer from poor work-life balance.

Therefore, company culture is where all leaders need to focus now. The HR leaders must
implement more inviting policies that attract great talent and help retain them.

Policy implementation should start right at the recruitment stage, where the employer should
highlight their business culture and how employees stand to benefit from it.

The Human Resource managers should not ignore the existing employees at the company.
Engaging opportunities, such as obtaining employee feedback and making relevant
improvements, can significantly boost employee morale. Moreover, closer Staff-HR
engagement makes employees feel more connected to their organisation.

Development Opportunities
As the pandemic gained hold, many people found themselves out of a job. Jobs that once felt
secure vanished, leading many to reconsider their career choice.

HR managers can address such situations by offering additional training, career counselling
& re-training employees to more suited roles within the organisation. Such steps make the
workplace more ideal for employees and improve their productivity, as employees will be
highly motivated to work on things they are passionate about.
