TEACHER LANGUAGE

This part of the assignment is set to enable us to assess your language grading and concept checking.

You must use direct speech, e.g.'OK everyone, listen very carefully because I'm going to tell you what to do next.
On the wall there are pictures of 12 animals. On these orange cards (hold up a card) are the names of the
animals. I'll give everyone a card with some blu-tack (show back of card with a blob of blu-tack). Take your card
and stick it to the correct animal picture. Juan, what are you going to do with your orange card?'

You might need to put in some predicted student responses for the vocabulary teaching part.

N.B. If you do not use direct speech, you will be required to resubmit the whole assignment.

Give word for word the language you could use for:

A) Presenting 3 of your selected vocabulary items which would need to be concept checked,
Show how you would elicit, explain and concept check each of the three items.

1. PROTEST
Teacher: Okay class, look at this picture. What do you see?
Student: People are holding boards
Teacher: Yes, and why are they holding boards? By looking at their actions and expression, do they
look happy?
Student: No, they look upset.
Teacher: Would you say they look as if they are ready to fight?
Student: Yes
Teacher: Okay class, this picture shows a protest. Can anyone tell me what is a protest?
Student: It is when people march together to fight.
Teacher: Yes, so basically, a protest is an action where people gather to publicly express their
opinions, mostly when people are not happy with something that is going on.
Let us look at how its pronounced, say it with me /'prəʊtests/
And again /'prəʊtests/
(students will say 'prəʊtests/)

Teacher: Well done, can anyone guess where is the word stress? Protest has 2 syllables, PRO-
TEST. Say it again and tell me where the stress is.
Student: It’s the second syllable - oO
Teacher: Well done. As you can see in the pictures, people are holding signs to express what they
feel and are protesting to get action from the government.
So quick recap (by using 2 concept questions), what is the term for a group of people who are
fighting for their rights?

Student: A protest
