ABSTRACT:
The goal of this project is to get a better understanding of what inspires individuals to volunteer and
to enhance knowledge based on volunteer motivation, as the issue of volunteerism motivation is
mostly unexplored. The research problem is a lack of sufficient understanding about the phenomena
in question, which is what inspires individuals to perform volunteer work.
For this study, a qualitative design was selected. Three semi-structured interviews with volunteers
who are currently doing voluntary work were undertaken to obtain data on the issue in question. The
volunteers' meanings and experiences were interpreted using thematic analysis in order to improve
future knowledge of what drives individuals to volunteer. Self-actualisation and growth, the urge to
help beyond, the desire to change, and the quest of pleasure were the four themes revealed.
Volunteers expressed a wish to achieve their full potential, as revealed by the interpretations.
Concerns about autonomy, competence, and relatedness as a whole are shared by volunteers. The
desire to make a difference in people's lives was an outstanding feature that contributed to the
research's credibility. Volunteering gives participants a feeling of purpose and hope, which benefits
their psychological well-being and health.
Finally, the most fundamental question of what inspires individuals to volunteer is still unsolved.

My present affiliation is with Unisa, where I am a Psychology honours student. Due to my own
experience and expertise in volunteerism, I am particularly interested in the motivation of those who
volunteer. I've attached a research proposal in this area.
I'm reaching you because I'd want to submit this idea to a peer group for review. My Research
Methodology course requires the suggested study. As a result, it appears acceptable to submit this
project for peer review to see what they think of the issue and my abilities to create a scientific study
proposal.
