A. Reflect on the scores you gave yourself on the attached "Teaching Practice

SelfInventory" by doing the following:

1. Discuss the decisions you made during planning, instruction, and assessment

for this lesson, focusing on the processes you used.

When planning for the lesson, I considered the needs of all my students, particularly my

Multilingual Learners (MLs) and my Special Education students, by intentionally selecting

strategies that would make the content accessible. I incorporated Spanish examples in my

reading lesson on compound words and when discussing the Essential Question for the week to

support language comprehension and increase student confidence. I also selected a writing

prompt related to my students’ interests in order to promote engagement and motivation during

reading centers.

To support classroom management and maximize instructional time, I planned for smooth

transitions by timing my students and encouraging them to improve their transition time

throughout the lesson. I made this decision to minimize lost instruction time and maintain

student focus. During instruction, I used evidence-based strategies such as turn-and-talks to

promote student discourse and allow students to process their thinking with peers. I monitored

time by checking the clock frequently and adjusted the pacing of the lesson as needed to ensure

that all instructional components were addressed.

For assessment, I used the “Lucky Ducks” strategy to promote equitable participation and

ensure that all students were accountable for contributing to the lesson. I also used turn-and-talks

as a form of informal formative assessment to gauge student understanding in real time.
