The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is an associate-level professional certification offered by Cisco, designed to validate the foundational knowledge and skills required to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot modern networks. It is widely regarded as a core entry-level credential for networking careers and covers a broad range of topics including network fundamentals, network access, IP connectivity, IP services, security fundamentals, and automation/programmability . The current exam is 200-301 CCNA (v1.1), which consists of approximately 100–120 questions to be completed within 120 minutes . The exam includes multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, and performance-based lablet questions that simulate real device configuration . The exam fee is $300 USD, and the certification is valid for three years . Exam Domains (v1.1): The current exam blueprint is structured around six domains with the following weights: Network Fundamentals (20%): OSI/TCP/IP models, IPv4/IPv6 addressing, subnetting, and network components . Network Access (20%): VLANs, trunking, EtherChannel, and wireless architectures . IP Connectivity (25%): Routing protocols (OSPFv2), routing tables, and static routing . IP Services (10%): DHCP, DNS, NAT, and SNMP . Security Fundamentals (15%): Security concepts, VPNs, wireless security, and ACLs . Automation and Programmability (10%): REST APIs, controller-based architectures, and tools like Ansible and Puppet . Upcoming Change (v2.0): Cisco has announced that CCNA v2.0 will take effect on February 3, 2027. The new version shifts the focus from manual configuration to "orchestration" of intelligent systems, with a stronger emphasis on troubleshooting, security woven throughout, and AI concepts. The domains will be restructured into five areas: Network Infrastructure & Connectivity (25%), Switching and Network Access (25%), IP Routing (20%), Network Services and Security (20%), and AI and Network Operations (10%). Candidates currently studying for v1.1 are encouraged to complete it before the transition, as the current certification remains valid and respected . Recertification: CCNA holders can recertify by earning 30 Continuing Education (CE) credits before expiration, or by passing a higher-level Cisco exam (such as a CCNP core exam) or another associate-level exam (e.g., DevNet Associate or CyberOps Associate). Earning 30 CE credits recertifies all associate-level certifications held simultaneously .
