The purpose of this chapter is to provide students with a comprehensive foundation for understanding the
world of business and economics. This chapter introduces essential concepts including the requirements

performance measurement tools. Students will explore the four types of competition, examine the
business cycle phases, and trace American business development from early settlements to contemporary
challenges. The chapter emphasizes practical applications by connecting economic principles to real-
world examples and current business environments. Additionally, it addresses the interconnected nature
of competitive, global, technological, and economic factors that shape modern business operations,
preparing students to analyze and navigate complex business situations in their future careers.
