CompTIA A+ Certification
The CompTIA A+ certification is the world's leading entry-level IT credential, trusted by employers globally as the standard for validating foundational IT support skills. It is a vendor-neutral certification that proves competency in hardware, networking, operating systems, security, mobile devices, virtualization, cloud computing, and troubleshooting. To earn the certification, candidates must pass two separate exams: Core 1 (220-1101) and Core 2 (220-1102). Core 1 covers mobile devices, networking, hardware, virtualization and cloud computing, and hardware and network troubleshooting. Core 2 covers operating systems, security, software troubleshooting, and operational procedures. The exams are administered at Pearson VUE testing centers or online via proctored remote testing, and each consists of multiple-choice questions and performance-based questions (PBQs). CompTIA recommends candidates have 9 to 12 months of hands-on experience in a lab or help desk environment before attempting the exams. The certification is valid for three years, after which it can be renewed through CompTIA's Continuing Education program by earning Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through approved training, higher-level certifications, or industry activities. Holding CompTIA A+ qualifies you for roles such as IT support specialist, help desk analyst, desktop support technician, and field service technician, and serves as a stepping stone to advanced certifications like Network+, Security+, and CySA+. It is the essential first step for anyone pursuing a career in information technology.
