Certified Meeting Professional (CMP)
The Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) is the premier global certification for meeting, event, and exhibition professionals, administered by the Events Industry Council (EIC). Established in 1985, the CMP designation represents the gold standard of excellence in the business events industry, held by more than 13,000 professionals across 55+ countries. Earning the CMP requires meeting rigorous eligibility requirements—including 36 months of full-time industry experience (or 24 months with a hospitality/event degree) and 25 clock hours of continuing education within the past five years. Candidates must then pass a comprehensive examination covering twelve domains of meeting management, including Strategic Planning, Project Management, Risk Management, Financial Management, Stakeholder Management, Event Design, Site Management, Marketing, Sustainability and Social Impact, Technology Integration, and Evaluation Process. In August 2025, the EIC launched a major update to the CMP International Standards (CMP-IS), introducing three new domains—Sustainability and Social Impact, Technology Integration, and Evaluation Process—while increasing emphasis on Risk Management and global relevance. The exam is offered year-round via in-center or remote proctoring, and certification must be renewed every five years through continuing education and professional contributions.
