, The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF)
is an organization for all nurse practitioners regardless of their
specialty founded in 1974 and it was focused on establishing
curriculum guidelines for nurse practitioner education during 1976-
1980 (NONPF, n.d.). Due to the evident success of the organization, it
continued till present date. It created strategic plans to help the
advancement of Nurse Practitioners. These strategic plans include:
1. Advance the Transition to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
2. Enhance the Quality & Consistency of Nurse Practitioner
Programs
3. Diversify & Expand Membership
4. Enhance Member Professional Development & Services
5. Expand NONPF’s Capacity & Mission-Alignment
The NONPF also created or determined nine broad areas of core
competence that apply to all nurse practitioners, regardless of
specialty or patient population focus. These competencies are as
follows:
Scientific Foundation: The scientific foundation, a core competency
for nurse practitioners, necessitates critical thinking and the
application of evidence- based approaches to enhance clinical
practice. The PMHNP program offered by Walden University has
provided me with an understanding of the clinical practice guidelines
that can help in making informed decisions about patient care.
Similarly, knowledge of evidence-based methodologies can guide the
selection of the most effective treatment options. This foundation
