, MNE3701 ASSIGNMENT 2 SEMESTER 2 2026
DUE DATE: 30 SEPTEMBER 2026
INTRODUCTION
Starting and managing a successful business requires an entrepreneur to make important
decisions about finance, customers, products and operations. A good business idea on its
own is not enough to guarantee success. The entrepreneur must have access to sufficient
financial resources, understand the needs of customers and be able to develop products
that provide value. The business must also have an effective supply chain so that the
required materials and products are available at the right time and at an acceptable cost.
A small South African food business will be used as a practical example. The business
could operate as a restaurant or takeaway that provides affordable meals such as grilled
meat, pap, salads, chips and other locally inspired food. The South African food industry
provides useful examples of businesses that have built strong brands through customer
service, product development, marketing and efficient operations. Large businesses such
as Nando's and KFC demonstrate how businesses can adapt their products to different
markets while maintaining a recognisable brand.
The discussion focuses on three important areas of entrepreneurship. The first section
examines how the business would be financed and why certain financing methods would be
preferred over others. The second section explains how strong customer relationships
would be developed and maintained. The final section considers how entrepreneurial skills
could be used to design and improve products while managing the supply chain. These
areas are important because financial resources, customer loyalty, product quality and
supply-chain efficiency all contribute to the long-term sustainability of a business.
