Chap:2 Circulatory System
, 2: Circulatory System
Definition:
The blood circulatory system is the system of the human body. It carries oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and waste products from one
part of the body to another. It is also called the cardiovascular system. Cardio = Heart Vascular = Blood vessels
Why is the Circulatory System Needed?
Our body's cells need:
Food (nutrients) from the small intestine and Oxygen from the lungs
Cells also produce waste:
Carbon dioxide → removed by the lungs Other waste chemicals → removed by the kidneys. Since the human body is too large for
simple diffusion, it needs a circulatory system to transport these materials.
Main Parts of the Circulatory System
The circulatory system consists of:
1. Heart ❤
2. Blood
3. Blood vessels
