Types of Motion
Colorful Detailed Study Notes
Introduction
Motion is the change in the position of an object with respect to time. It is one of the most important
concepts in Physics and helps explain how objects move around us.
Linear Motion
Motion in a straight line. Examples: train, car, falling stone.
Circular Motion
Motion along a circular path. Examples: fan blades, clock hands.
Rotational Motion
Object rotates about its own axis. Examples: wheel, Earth.
Oscillatory Motion
To-and-fro motion. Examples: swing, pendulum.
Periodic Motion
Repeats after equal intervals. Examples: Earth around Sun.
Random Motion
No fixed path. Examples: butterflies, dust particles.
