Nurse Practice Acts: have a common purpose, are
legal, regulate practice, and are jurisdiction

, The regulation of nursing is a function of state law. State legislatures pass
statutes that define and regulate nursing, called
nurse practice acts. Each state has a nurse practice
act that legally defines and describes the scope of
nursing practice and legally controls nursing
practice through licensure requirements. Advanced
practice nurses require additional licensure.
